TASK 17 //
COSTUME
Whilst preparing for my short film's filming days, I believed it was crucial for the costume of the protagonist to be really well thought out, as this would be one of the main features of the character which would construct the assumptions of her. Therefore, she would need to wear clothes which would typically be worn by someone under a goth-influence.
The first item of clothing which the protagonist will be wearing is a plain, black top. This top has holes in the shoulder-region, which is something that someone who considerers themselves as an emo would wear. The black colour also follows the conventional look which a goth would have, allowing the audience to understand what type of person the protagonist is.
I will have the protagonist of the short film wearing a skirt, which is also black. When researching into the typical look of an "emo", I found that skirts were the most ideal items of clothing for someone who is trying to represent an emo. This skirt will be short. This will further connote the concept of the protagonist being influenced by gothic themes.
The protagonist will also be wearing tights throughout the production, as these were also seen on people influenced by goth themes when doing my research online. The tights will be black, matching the top and skirt. The excessive black clothing is very conventional and will fit very well when my actor plays the role of Sophie.
Midway through the production, Sophie (the protagonist) is seen walking to a hall, where she is seen playing the violin. Therefore, it is necessary for her to wear a coat, as this would be done if it was a real-life situation. Therefore, the actor in my short film will be wearing a black coat.
In terms of accessories to put on the actor, I have bought a black choker necklace to match the black-themed costume. This is conventionally worn by people who are goth-influenced, as well as piercings. Therefore, I was able to obtain a nose ring and earrings. I have also been able to get a ring to be placed on the protagonist's finger at the beginning of the film. This will complete the look of my actor and will be able to convey the message that the protagonist takes pride in her displaying the appearance of being an emo.
