TASK 21 //
MAGAZINE REVIEWS CONVENTIONS
For this task, I have decided to present my research on magazine review conventions in the style of a radio show. Within the radio show, I discuss various features which reviews often hold, such as star ratings and large images. To the left is a video on Youtube which has been implemented onto the page. To view my analysis of conventions, click the play button. The animation seen on screen while the video plays is made on Adobe After Effects, which I learnt to do while researching into the software itself for another one of my research tasks.
I have learnt a great deal about the conventions for a magazine review through the research of this task. I was able to understand what is typically found in a review and why this is typically used by the creators of these texts. An example of the conventions are the use of large, colourful images which are shown on the page of the review. This is done to grab the attention of the audience as they may be flicking through the magazine. The image is often used from a pivotal moment within the film, as it gives an insight to the audience as to what the film may be about. From this task, I am able to apply the knowledge of magazine reviews conventions to my own magazine reviews as part of my ancillary tasks. I aspire to follow the conventions of these reviews, as it will allow anyone who views my own review to identify what the text is about and fits into existing review patterns.
