TASK 7 //
CHARACTER PROFILES
Sophie
Sophie is portrayed to be a gothic, emo-influenced teenage girl, who tends to keep to herself and prefers to be by herself. She is seen in the majority of the short film to be alone. She wears black clothing and makeup, which creates a sense of intimidation when looking at her initially. The short film also aims to display her to be uninterested in her studies first, but this thought is changed by the end of the film. However, she is far from intimidating. She is a polite, educated and well-mannered girl who is very easy to talk to once you get to know her. She enjoys playing the violin with her friends and contributes to the local recitals held in public halls around her county.
Nicole
Nicole is the only other person in the short film which exchanges dialogue with Sophie. She is one of the violinists who rehearse with Sophie regularly. Because of their frequent visits, they have become good friends and this is seen through a brief discussion throughout the short film towards the end. She is seen to be polite and focused on the recital which she will be a part of. She also proves to be a good friend, as she reassures their teacher will not be mad at her for walking into rehearsals late. Her jolly and positive attitude towards life is seen to be rubbing off on Sophie, as they are seen smiling at each other whilst playing the violins.
The Composer
The composer within the short film is portrayed to be very serious and professional, seen through the scene where he is seen giving Sophie a stern look as she is late to the violin recital. He features in a small section of the short film, which he instructs the students to play the violin. This authority shows him to very important and a dominating character. Also within the short film, I am planning to have Sophie roll her dress down, so that it is longer in length, before she enters the hall. This will show that she is afraid of the composer and show his influence as authoritative and important.
