TASK 7 //
RESEARCH INTO TYPICAL SYNOPSIS
To view my in-depth analysis of the synopsis of five coming-of-age short films, click each individual image above to be directed to another website. I have chosen to analyse 'She's a Fox', 'Alone with People', 'The Truth about Meeting Women', 'Soft' and 'Bombshell'. Also, to listen to my brief explanation of each similar storyline to the films I analysed, click the play buttons above.

From the completion of this task, I have been able to analyse how many current coming-of-age short films have recurring themes throughout them. For example, I have learnt that it is typical for coming of age short films to discuss the issues of gang culture, drugs and alcohol, sexuality and romance in general. I have been able to understand how it is typical within a short film to have a very short point of equilibrium at the beginning and end of the film. This is done to save time and allow more time to be focused on the actual dilemma. The dilemma can vary from a young teenager coming to terms with who they are, as well as bullies at school. Also, I have understood what theories are usually able to be applied to a coming of age short film, such as Vladamir Propp's theory of character types. Particular character types which are often implimented in a this genre is 'the hero' and 'the villain'. Also, Roland Barthes' action theory is applicable to these films, as there is often a point of conflict which is encountered before the film can return to an equilibrium point. This task is going to help plan my own coming of age film, as I can use what I have learnt to incorportate these typical narratives into my own production. I have also decided to follow Propp's character theory, making sure my own film will have the roles of 'the hero', 'the villain' and possibly 'the helper'.
