TASK 15 //
PROPS LIST
Mirror – As the film begins, the first shot is shown through the reflection of a mirror. This mirror will show Sophie to be brushing her hair, which connotes her to care about her appearance.
Hair Brush – The brush will be needed for the protagonist to use when the shot of her brushing her hair in the mirror is used. The hair brush is conventional in a coming of age film, as teenagers often care about their appearance and carry these brushes in their bags.
Black Handbag – The black handbag is essential for the film’s plot, as it will allow the audience to make assumptions on the protagonist’s characteristics before the film has even finished. She will be seen taking out school books and replacing them with makeup and her bus pass in her bag.
Makeup, Bus Pass and a Drink – These items will be placed inside of the bag during the opening of the short film. As these will be the replacement items for books in her bag, it will represent how she may not be focused on her education and that she is planning on ditching school for the day.
Headphones – The headphones will be necessary for the film to include, as the non-diegetic music layered on the sound of the film will be demonstrated as the sound of the headphones heightened. This music will be heavy metal and rock music, allowing the stereotypes of a ‘goth’ to be associated with the protagonist.
School Books – These books will be needed at the start of the short film, as well as the flashback incorporated within. The start requires the use of school books, as she is seen taking them out of her bag to demonstrate her ditching school. It will also be needed for the flashback, as she will be seen in school being talked about in class by two bullies.
“Violin Recital” poster – The poster will be featured in the short film, as she will be seen walking into a hall with this poster placed outside. At this point, the audience will realise that she is actually gifted, opposed to their assumption of her being unfocused on her studies.
Violins – The violins will be necessary in order to complete the filming of the final scene, as she will finally be seen playing the instrument in a rehearsal for the final performance later that night.
