SHORT FILM AWARDS
For this task, I have presented my research in the style of the opening of three short film awards. The award shows I decided to research into were Raindance film festival, Lift Off Awards and East End Film Festival. This was essential information for me to research into before planning my own short film, as it would allow me to focus on aspects of films which have allowed them to be critically noticed and achieved. From this task, I was also able to view productions which are highly considered to be iconic in the genre of coming of age.
There are various short film awards which I had briefly looked into, however I looked further into three selected award. The awards are a mixture of both award shows and festivals. From this task, I learnt what films are typically rewarded for, such as reinforcing, as well as subverting stereotypes. It also gave me an insight on where these awards and festivals are held. I also found typical categories which these film awards would give awards to. Examples of these award categories are Best UK Short, Best Animated Short, Best Documentary Short and Season Best Actor. I also viewed some of the nominees and winners of the awards to give me inspiration on how I should aspire my short film to turn out as. From viewing these productions, I found out that a pattern with these films is that they are all very minimalistic in terms of dialogue and often have shots to establish setting when a new scene is begun. I intend to implement these features in my own production.
